Shawn Swanson Johnson, OTR graduated from UTHSCA in 1998. She is an Occupational Therapist with over 20 years of upper limb loss rehabilitation experience. Her background includes clinical as well as teaching experience in upper-limb rehabilitation, working with the rehab teams at Walter Reed and Brooke Army Medical Centers, presenting to O&P student programs, speaking at national and international conferences, and facilitating collaboration between prosthetists and therapists to improve outcomes for their patients. She is a member of handsmart, an international group of therapists dedicated to educating therapists and individuals with limb loss about amputee rehabilitation. She published a chapter on “Prosthetic Training: Upper Limb” and is currently a guest lecturer for the Orthotic and Prosthetic students at Baylor College of Medicine covering evaluation and treatment in upper limb loss rehabilitation from an OT perspective. Shawn is currently serving on the Amputee Coalition’s Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee and Upper Limb Loss Advisory Council. She previously served on the board of directors for the U.S. National Member Society of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (US-ISPO) for over 12 years. Shawn is the owner of SSJ Rehab Services, PLLC and chair of the Skills for Life Bilateral Upper Limb Loss Workshops.
