Samoana Matagi, or Sam, graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2004. Shortly after graduating, he went to work for a local news station. After two and a half years working in local television, Sam pursued a career in powerline maintenance. In December of 2010, during his apprenticeship, he survived a serious work accident in which he lost his hands to electrical burns. In 2012 he returned to work as a safety engineer for one year. While working as a safety engineer he started a channel on YouTube under the moniker of the No-Handed Bandit. Because of the channel, Sam won the American Red Cross Good Samaritan award in the Salt Lake City area for 2013. He began speaking as a motivational speaker for local schools and a safety presenter for local power companies. In 2014, Sam was awarded an Honorary Lineman Ticket. He has been on two gold medal Special Olympic Basketball Teams and played basketball on the home-courts of two NBA teams. In February of 2016, he reached a ranking of 4th in the world in the sport of Para-Snowboardcross.
